Lockport in Bloom is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the beautification of Lockport by encouraging residents to share with others their beautiful and creative gardens. The committee encourages neighborhood beautification and promotes community pride by bringing people to the area to view the many wonderful gardens.
Lockport In Bloom was chartered in 2005 under the joint collaboration of City Attorney, John Ottaviano, garden enthusiasts Bridgitt Borek and Charlene Bower, as well as Certified Master Community Forester and Master Gardener Taren LaGamba. When they first began, the Lockport In Bloom Garden Festival had about 15 gardens and now has over 40 gardens for visitors to enjoy.
Lockport in Bloom is not a contest. There is no judging of the gardens and there are no entry fees. This event is open to anyone in the City of Lockport area who wants to participate, with no prior judging. The boundaries have been expanded to include any garden within one mile of the City limits. All participants need to do is fill out an application and start gardening.
The work of organizing and managing Lockport in Bloom has always been completed by the committee volunteers. The financial support comes primarily from sponsors, supporters and patrons, as well as voluntary contributions from participants and visitors.
This year the City of Lockport is hosting the 16th annual City-wide Lockport In Bloom Garden Festival. Annually, the Lockport in Bloom Garden Festival brings more than 2,500 nature-lovers to the community.
